Information on Service 'VCD datalink service'

The Venus Climate Database (VCD)s a database of atmospheric statistics compiled from state-of-the art Global Climate Model (GCM) simulations of the Venusian atmosphere. The GCM computes in 3D the atmospheric circulation taking into account radiative transfer through the gaseous atmosphere, includes a representation of non-LTE processes, EUV heating, conduction and molecular diffusion in the thermosphere. Sub-grid processes such as convection in the boundary layer, non orographic and orographic gravity waves are also simulated. Photochemistry that controls the atmospheric composition is also implemented in the model which extends into the upper thermosphere. The model used to compile the statistics has been extensively validated using available observational data and aims at representing the current best knowledge of the state of the Venusian atmosphere given the observations and the physical laws which govern the atmospheric circulation and surface conditions on the planet.
